Job Description

This role reports to the Clinical Service Manager of Children's Mental Health.

Accountabilities

  • Conduct assessments
  • Apply behavior management strategies; assist staff, parents and teachers in understanding and the application of these approaches
  • Conduct groups and provide case management services for children and youth with complex needs

Qualifications

  • Child and youth work diploma
  • Current member of Ontario Association of Child and Youth Counsellors
  • Undergraduate Degree in Psychology would be an asset
  • Two to three years current experience in child and adolescent mental health, conducting behavioral assessments with children, adolescents, and families, and responding to challenging behavior in a hospital/group home/classroom setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work in collaboration with other team members to develop and implement individualized treatment approaches for patients and families in the context of a milieu setting, using evidence based approaches
  • Knowledge of the major disorders of childhood
  • Demonstrated ability to assist in modeling effective behavior management strategies
  • Experience in collaborating with teachers
  • Experience in developing and conducting therapeutic groups
  • Experience in providing case management services
  • Must be willing to work in secure, open, and day hospital settings

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Excellent attendance, punctuality and work record

Additional Information

Hours: Currently days, 8 and 12 hour shifts including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
