The Operational Stress Injury (OSI) Clinic provides specialized mental health assessment and treatment to clients who are experiencing work-related psychological stress and trauma (e.g. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other anxiety disorders; depression; chronic pain, etc). These clients are referred by Veterans Affair Canada, RCMP and the Department of National Defense. In addition, spouse and family psychoeducation and/or treatment are offered within the context of the client's operational stress injury.
As an Intake Nurse with Vancouver Coastal Health you will
Work as a member of an interdisciplinary team to conduct the centralized intake functions for the designated site/program services to ensure linkages between client and the appropriate resources occurs.
Perform initial screening, triage and referrals based on client needs, urgency of request and best practices to determine the appropriate treatment and educates.
Provide consultation to client/family.
Provide information to health providers and the general public, establishes and enhances relationships/communication within the designated program services and other community resources.
Prepare and maintain client records.
Maintain and provide accurate intake/referral data and statistics.
Participates in team meetings and continuing education.
Engage in on-going team planning and quality improvement.
Education & Experience
Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
Three (3) years recent related experience in the designated clinical program area or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client and family centred care model.
Broad knowledge of the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for nursing.
Broad knowledge of other facilities and community resources.
Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
Broad knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
Broad knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to client.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with colleagues, physicians, school counselors, clients and their families, students, and other service providers in health both one-on-one and in groups.
Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promotes communication and lead to a co-operative approach to problem solving within a multidisciplinary setting.
Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities.
Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with conflict situations.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.
Demonstrated ability to problem solve.
Ability to operate related equipment.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
Demonstrated computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system and word processing, spreadsheet, Internet and e-mail software.
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
