Job Description

Position: Licensed Practical Nurse

FTE: Part Time Permanent 60%. 45 Hours Bi-weekly / Days, Nights, and Weekends – 12 hr shifts

Department: Health PEI, Mental Health & Addictions

Location: Hillsborough Hospital

Salary: $26.49 - $31.59 Per Hour

Start Date/Term Length: Commencing Immediatley

 

 

 

 

About The Job

The incumbent will assist and provide, under supervision, basic nursing care for patients on Acute Care Psychiatry & Safe and Secure. The incumbent is required to work independently under the direction of the department Manager.

 

 

 

Duties will include:

  • Meeting the physical, psychological, spiritual, emotional and sociological needs of patients;
  • preparing, administering and recording use of oral medication;
  • transcribing physician's orders as required;
  • providing effective communication thorough charting as well as written and verbal reports;
  • implementing programs of daily living;
  • implementing behavioural management techniques;
  • capable of performing sterile and non-sterile techniques;
  • providing guidance to non-professional staff;
  • other related duties.

 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have successful completion of a recognized Licensed Practical Nursing Program.
  • Active or eligible for registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Prince Edward Island.
  • Successful completion of the pharmacology training, health assessment, and administration course is required.
  • Must demonstrate application of knowledge of client’s physical, psychosocial, emotional and spiritual needs; which includes clients with chronic illnesses
  • Must demostrate an alignment with Health PEI’s Mission, Vision, and Values; including honesty and integrity in personal and professional behaviour
  • Must be current in CPR/BCLS, TLR, WHIMIS All Hazards Codes and annual recertifications.
  • Must have knowledge of chronic illnesses
  • Must demonstrate a professional presence and model professional behaviour.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with patients, family and staff.
  • Must be capable of sustained physical activity and physical ability to complete personal care.
  • Must have a good previous work and attendance record.

 

 

 

Other Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a psychiatric setting would be an asset.
  • Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.
