Registered Nurse (RN)

Site: All Niagara Health sites

Union: Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA)

Status: Full-time/Part-time/Temporary as posted

Working to promote nursing excellence, quality patient/client-centered care and high professional standards, the Registered Nurse will be responsible for the assessment, nursing diagnosis, integrated care plan development, implementation and evaluation of nursing care. The objective of the Registered Nurse is to provide safe and competent care through the application of nursing knowledge, the technical aspects of professional practice and the demonstration of compassion, professionalism and respect.

 

Qualifications:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • One year related clinical experience in the past three years in a hospital environment.
  • Current BCLS certification
  • Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving
  • Applies leadership skills by providing, facilitating and promoting quality patient care
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient and family education and the ability to promote health and wellness
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable legislation
  • Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe, independent and inter-disciplinary practice by meeting nursing practice standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and related professional associations
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient/client centred care
  • Demonstrated ability to develop an integrated plan of care
  • Evidence of accurate, timely and appropriate documentation according to best practice guidelines and CNO standards
  • Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service
  • Working knowledge of computers
  • Consistent and regular attendance required
  • Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset

 

Unit Specific Skills:

Emergency:

  • ACLS, PALS and TNCC certification preferred
  • Emergency Nursing certification (CNA) preferred
  • Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale training preferred
  • Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification
  • Certification in delegated controlled acts including; defibrillation, dispensing medication and application of energy
  • Demonstrated proficiency in IV Therapy Initiation, phlebotomy, cardiac monitoring/interpretation, and care of ventilated patients/clients
  • Gerontology Nursing certification through the Canadian Nurses Association preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in physical assessment (Physical Assessment Course preferred)
  • Current knowledge of emergency nursing standards in accordance with the National Emergency Nurses Affiliation (NENA)

 

ICU:

  • Critical Care Certificate and or Critical Care Designation(CNA)
  • Controlled acts authorized to nursing in the critical care setting and/or delegated controlled acts
  • Current knowledge and understanding of the Standards for Critical Care Nursing in accordance with the Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses (CACCN)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in physical assessment (Physical Assessment Course preferred)
  • Arterial line monitoring, management of cardiac and or respiratory arrest and ROSC
  • Knowledge and experience with cardiac monitoring and interpretation including; hemodynamic monitoring, 12 lead ECG interpretation, defibrillation, cardioversion, pacing and mechanical ventilation
  • Demonstrated proficiency in IV Therapy Initiation, direct IV drug administration, vasoactive and emergency medications
  • Knowledge and experience with advanced pain management, including epidurals and pain pumps

 

Medical:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in IV Therapy Initiation and use of IV pumps
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill with CVADs, CADD pumps, VAC therapy and enteral feeds

 

Surgical:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in IV Therapy and Advanced IV Therapy
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill with CVADs, Advanced CVADs, PCAs and epidural lines, VAC therapy, enteral feeds, TPN and chest tubes
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of nursing standards as they apply to the care of perioperative patients/clients

 

Complex Care:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy, IV Therapy Initiation and use of IV pumps
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill with CVADs, CADD pumps, holter monitors, ECG, VAC therapy and enteral feeds
  • Certification in Gentle Persuasive Approaches in dealing with complex care patients preferred
